Is Malaysia a Police State? Why has there been no reporting of this important unprecedented defamation case involving the issuing of multiple injunctions, contempt of court proceedings, threats of imprisonment etc. against Dr Huong? I have lost count of the High Court hearings on the case. They have also been countless legal documents filed with the High Court of Malaya in KL, most of which are in the public domain. Yet not one word about these matters has been reported in the Malaysian media. more »

Mr Campbell says that ESDV leak-off tests were purposely falsified, not once but many times. He further alleges that the inaction of the relevant Asset Manager, the General Manager, the Oil Director and the Shell Expro Managing Director in 1999 (Malcolm Brinded), contributed in some part to the unlawful killing of two persons on Brent Bravo in September 2003. more »

This was followed by a string of other scandals: the Corrib debacle in Ireland (where Shell had five people jailed), the sale of tainted gasoline, fictitious trading, the Brent Bravo tragedy, a $10 BILLION cost overrun on the Sakhalin 2 white elephant project in Russia and the continuing crimes by Shell against Nigerian nationals in the obscene plunder and pollution of Nigeria. As a Shell insider pointed out to me yesterday, there is a common denominator in most of these scandals: his name is Malcolm Brinded. more »

On the Warffum deaths: during the incident all the directors and their poodles were having one of many conferences in Houston.
When the news broke, nobody knew what to do and who should take charge. So all the bosses left the conference and went home. A clear sign of blind panic and a malfunctioning organisation. I work for Shell and witnessed all this from very close. more »

Is it possible that Shell management is so out of touch that it does not realise just how bad this looks to outside observers? Eight Royal Dutch Shell companies ganging up and terrorising an unemployed formally loyal employee of 29 years standing, while also trying to coerce an infirm old man into travelling to Malaysia for interrogation by Shell lawyers, possibly followed by incarceration. more »

Not only has their environment been destroyed; the people of the Niger Delta have seen none of the profits. Although Shell has extracted more than £30bn from the area, the people who live on the land survive on less than 60 pence a day, with barely any roads, schools or hospitals. Many of the Ogoni people who have spoken out against this scandal have been killed by the Nigerian state. Shortly before he was seized on ludicrous trumped-up charges, Saro-Wiwa said: "This is it. They are going to arrest us all and execute us all for Shell." Although Shell vociferously denies responsibility, their close business partner swiftly hanged Saro-Wiwa, and a major critic of the corporation was conveniently silenced. more »

The sleuthing industry recruits heavily from the intelligence services. One firm, Hakluyt, is staffed almost entirely by ex-intelligence staff. Until a few years ago Sir William Purves and the late Sir Peter Holmes were the ultimate spymasters of Hakluyt. Sir William was the Chairman of Hakluyt and Sir Peter was the President of the Hakluyt Foundation which had an intelligence oversight function. Both gentlemen were simultaneously directors/shareholders in Shell and Hakluyt. more »

However, he awarded costs of the contempt proceedings against them to Shell E&P Ireland. He also warned that, should the men "again physically prevent Shell E&P exercising its rights" and if a further injunction was obtained against them, the court had jurisdiction to impose a penalty of a further fixed term of imprisonment of "an appropriate duration". In June 2005, Shell issued a motion for attachment and committal of the five for contempt of the April 4th court order. On June 29th, 2005, the five men were jailed until they purged their contempt. The men refused to do so but they were released from prison in September 2005 after Shell applied to have the April injunction discharged. more »

It is quite a poker game. All in all, a no win situation for Shell.

As can be seen, Shell lawyers are continuing to make an international laughing stock out of Royal Dutch Shell Plc. Shell is fighting a losing battle against the power of the Internet as a low cost tool for promoting freedom of expression. It gives the weak and oppressed a powerful global platform against the rich and powerful of this world, including greedy, evil and dishonest multinationals e.g. the scandal ridden Royal Dutch Shell Group whose reputation is actually on a par with ENRON. more »
